Ecosystem Dilemma Convention

Brand Identity & Event Design

Self-directed academic project

Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign

December 2018

Ecosystem Dilemma was a convention concept I created around something I genuinely care about: the environment. The idea was to design a real-world event that brought together speakers, open debates, and community conversations around environmental protection. I then built everything needed to promote it.

Logo & Visual Identity

I started with the logo because everything else had to flow from it. The mark depicts an industrial factory with a tree growing from the central chimney, illustrating the problem and the solution in a single image. I kept it monochrome green so the concept could speak for itself without the design getting in the way.

Brochure

The brochure covered everything an attendee would need to know. The front features a hexagonal photo grid of the celebrity guest speakers alongside environmental imagery. Inside, there's a description of the event and a three-day schedule, broken down by topic: Global Warming, Pollution, and Energy Consumption, with speaker appearances mapped to each day. The back closes with two hands cradling the Earth and the tagline I came up with: Don't Be Mean. Be Green!

Poster

The poster puts the logo front and center, surrounded by words of inspiration (Contribute, Preserve, Protect, Change, Embrace) scattered at different sizes and opacities. I wanted it to feel as if the logo were emerging from a cloud of intention rather than just sitting on a blank background.

Digital

The convention had its own webpage, too. I illustrated a full hero banner with a nature scene, built out sections for the schedule, merchandise, and speakers, and designed a loading screen featuring the logo on a spinning pinwheel color wheel. The pinwheel worked on two levels: it referenced the loading animation and tied back to the environmental theme. Every section carried the same green palette and illustrated style as the print materials.

Merchandise & Supporting Material

I designed two handbags to serve as both brand extensions and awareness pieces. Each one carries the convention logo and a tagline I wrote: Livin' Green / Livin' Mean and Spread the Word, Protect the World. The idea was that someone carrying the bag becomes part of the campaign. I also designed ID badges and event tickets. They were designed with botanical motifs, blooming flowers, and flowing leaves, keeping the visual language simple and cohesive with the broader brand.

By the end, the project had grown into a complete brand system, all built from one concept.
